Maya Traditions Foundation - backstrap weaving
Come and join Maya Traditions Foundation September 10th and 11th at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian for two days of backstrap weaving. Alongside their partners, Unlocking Silent Histories who will be presenting short documentaries that have been created by the children of Guatemalan weavers, Maya Traditions Foundation will be traveling to New York with three artisan partners to demonstrate the art of backstrap weaving. The women of Maya Traditions will demonstrate the various techniques of backstrap weaving practiced throughout Guatemala, as well as highlight the detail-oriented process of creating hand woven patterns which have inspired traditional prints across the fashion industry. Weaving Hand is happy to help facilitate the promotion of this event as it promotes the values at the core of our mission.
The event takes place September 10-11 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Screenings of the youth-produced documentaries will take place at 11 AM and 3 PM.
