Textile Study Group of New York will host California fiber artist LISA KOKIN at their monthly meeting where she will speak about her process and inspiration and show images of her work in which she uses reclaimed fabric, buttons, photos and books.
Fiber Artist LISA KOKIN at TSGNY will speak and show images of her work. Using reclaimed fabric, materials, photos, books and found objects, this California artist and teacher creates art pieces, sculptures and wall installations. She has worked with buttons, thrift store finds and most recently with simple thread and zippers. Kokin’s work is often a critique of the socio-political status quo imbued with a healthy dose of levity and a keen sensitivity to materials and processes. She explores irony and memory in her seemingly ephemeral pieces that become lasting works of art. Kokin is a conceptual artist to be sure – her work has content, humor and social commentary while maintaining a rigorous adherence to painstaking process.
