‘friends of light’ in Conversation with Elena Phipps

friends of light’ invites you to join in conversation with Dr. Elena Phipps on technical and cultural aspects of ancient Peruvian weaving techniques and their application in ‘friends of light’s’ first series of hand-woven jackets.

‘friends of light’ is a New York-based weaving and design collective producing couture hand-woven garments on hand-made looms. Their process celebrates, explores and advances ancient weaving techniques. Elena Phipps is a world-renowned textile scholar and curator. Her exhibition and accompanying book, The Peruvian Four-Selvaged Cloth: Ancient Threads/New Directions (2013), continues to inspire ‘friends of light’s’ ongoing series of garments, ‘with light.’
