Scraps: Fashion, Textiles and Creative Re-use
As a Personal Style enthusiast since age 3 and major part of the Advanced Style Movement I want to encourage women and men to use their creative talents to truly express SELF.
We all have a personal statement to make.
As a textile artist since the 1960's I have used textiles and related re-purposed materials to enhance and embellish the body.
One favorite expression is "FRAME THE FACE" . What makes the greatest statement when we walk in a room is our FACE.
I do workshops called "BIBS, BOAS AND BREASTPLATES" working with such materials as scraps of fabric, strips of ribbon, cloth selvages, eco palm leaf plates, steel wool, salvaged paper, dryer lint, and other non-traditional fiber related materials.
This has been taught at MAD
Also workshops on "EPAULETS as EMBELLISHMENTS" and "HATS" as another way to "FRAME THE FACE".
"VIVA PAPER TOWEL HATS"-Working with a non-traditional material anyone can build a hat from 8-80 yrs old and have a unique personal statement. This has been taught at MOMA, East Village Hats, Arts Westchester and other venues.
"SWEATERS and T-SHIRTS RE-PURPOSED INTO HATS"
This has been taught at Eileen Fisher Makers Space.
