Join us at FIT's campus in Chelsea for a tour of the the rooftop Natural Dye Garden and Weaving and Knitting Labs, hosted by the Textile Development and Marketing Department. We will begin with a visit to the 9th floor rooftop garden, a unique urban greenspace that is home to over 25 species of natural dye plants. This is a wonderful example of FIT’s commitment to sustainability and material exploration. Then explore the weaving and knitting lab spaces to learn about the various looms and knitting machines that are housed at FIT as well as our focus on innovation in production. Attendees will also get to view "Farm to Fabric," the curated work of TDM senior capstone students, on display in one of our exhibition spaces.
The Textile Development and Marketing (TDM) program at FIT takes you from fiber to finished product, through all aspects of the industry, from knitting and weaving to dyeing and finishing to performance textiles. We explore critical issues like sustainability, biodesign, and we analyze textiles in our state-of-the-art lab.
