Online/ Open Studio / Weaving
Adélaïde Germain opens the doors of her Paris studio for an online visit into architectural weaving. On a hand loom, she works in the spirit of French haute couture, treating swatches of reclaimed matter the way a couturier treats precious fabric. Her pieces are true garments for architecture, gowns that dress walls and let light move through them.
Everything begins with reuse. Eyewear acetate, brass, glass and materials salvaged from events, offcuts and manufacturers become the raw matter of her work, chosen for the way they hold and release light. From these fragments she composes surfaces of high texture, panels, screens and light filters conceived not as decoration but as building material, dividing space and shaping its light and acoustics. Her signature gesture, which she calls sertissage, is born from the meeting of weaving and architecture.
Filmed in her studio at the Manufacture de Belleville and presented in French with English subtitles, the session moves from the raw material to the gesture, then to a reading of her named pieces, including work shown at the Petit Palais in Paris. A live question-and-answer moment closes the event. Germain develops her practice with RÉEMPART, a non-profit turning reclaimed materials into cultural narratives.
