Contemporary art is woven into the Brooklyn portion of the Symposium through RAW — INK ON HEMP, an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Marie Pervenche featuring over 20 original ink works created on raw hemp textile. Curated by Connie Byun of 3RD ETHOS Gallery, the exhibition brings together RAW — Ink on Hemp, Series No. 1 and INDIFFERENCE — Ink on Hemp, Series No. 2, alongside selected works from WOMAN — Ink on Linen.Exploring raw hemp as both a textile and an artistic medium, Pervenche allows the material’s natural texture, tonal variations, and irregularities to become part of the artwork itself. Her expressive ink works translate the ephemeral nature of performance into physical form, offering another way to experience hemp as a contemporary creative medium.Within the Brooklyn program, RAW — Ink on Hemp extends the farm-to-fabric story into contemporary art, connecting hemp’s long history to new forms of artistic experimentation and cultural expression.

Presented by Choose Your Change, the Farm to Fabric Hemp Symposium is a multi-day exploration of the history and future of hemp, tracing the material’s journey from agriculture and traditional fiber practices to contemporary textiles, design, manufacturing, art, and fashion.
Through live demonstrations, expert-led discussions, textile and material presentations, contemporary art, fashion, and storytelling, the Symposium brings together farmers, Indigenous knowledge holders, researchers, manufacturers, designers, artists, educators, and cultural leaders working across the hemp textile supply chain.
Over two days at the Brooklyn Peace Center, visitors will experience the many stages of hemp’s transformation while also exploring the history, knowledge, and cultural traditions that have shaped its use over time. Programming will look at farming and regenerative agriculture, fiber processing, textile development, design, manufacturing, and the growing possibilities for hemp within a more sustainable textile economy.
Live demonstrations at the Brooklyn Peace Center will feature the Tuscarora Nation, KINGDOM / weavearth, and the NC State Wilson College of Textiles, each offering a different perspective on hemp’s journey from fiber to textile and design. Together, these demonstrations connect traditional knowledge, material innovation, textile development, and contemporary applications in real time.
The Symposium creates a living farm-to-fabric environment where visitors can see materials, processes, and production methods as they happen. By placing historical knowledge alongside contemporary innovation, the program connects hemp’s past with the people and practices helping shape its future.

Across the two days, the Brooklyn Peace Center becomes a farm-to-fabric environment featuring live demonstrations, talks, textiles, material exploration, contemporary art, design, and marketplace programming.
Featured live demonstrations include:
Tuscarora Nation — sharing traditional knowledge and fiber practices that connect hemp’s material history with Indigenous knowledge and culture.
KINGDOM / weavearth — presenting hemp textiles and material innovation, connecting fiber development with contemporary textile production and design.
NC State Wilson College of Textiles — demonstrating textile development and design, offering a view into how hemp fibers and fabrics can move into contemporary applications.
Together, the demonstrations and programming highlight both the history and future of hemp, bringing traditional knowledge, agricultural practices, fiber and textile processes, contemporary production, and emerging applications into one shared environment.
The Symposium also serves as a collaborative platform connecting New York’s creative community with leaders from across the hemp textile supply chain, creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, storytelling, and cross-sector partnerships that support a more sustainable and resilient future for textiles.
Julian Magazine Hemp Issue Release + Fashion Presentation

The weekend culminates on Governors Island with the Julian Magazine Hemp Issue Release and Fashion Presentation, carrying the farm-to-fabric story forward through fashion, storytelling, culture, and community.
The presentation will feature garments and collections created using hemp and hemp-blend textiles, demonstrating the versatility, innovation, and growing possibilities of natural fibers within contemporary design.
Guests will experience finished garments while connecting them back to the farms, fibers, mills, makers, designers, and collaborations behind them — continuing the Symposium’s exploration of where hemp has been and where it can go next.
The event also marks the official release of a special hemp-focused issue of Julian Magazine, documenting the people, organizations, artists, designers, and partnerships contributing to the evolving farm-to-fabric movement.
Together, the Brooklyn Symposium and Sunday presentation tell a connected story of hemp — from its history in agriculture, fiber, textile, and culture to its future in sustainable design, manufacturing, fashion, and creative practice.
Through education, live demonstrations, art, fashion, storytelling, and collaboration, the Farm to Fabric Hemp Symposium invites the public to experience the history of hemp while exploring the possibilities of its future.
Choose Your Change is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit and creative strategy organization connecting art, agriculture, advocacy, and sustainable industry practices. CYC has partnered with NIHC (National Institute Hemp Council) and Indigenous Nations to bridge key leaders between community-led vision and practical implementation, helping farmers, designers, educators, cultural organizers, and mission-aligned partners build projects with real-world impact. Its current work focuses on regenerative hemp textiles, circular economies, Indigenous knowledge sharing, the possibilities of a sustainable US and global hemp market through farm-to-fabric education. Through events, partnerships, storytelling, and hands-on programming, Choose Your Change creates accessible spaces where sustainability, culture, and community can move from idea to action.
