3D printing Lace Lab explores the future of textile craftsmanship through experimental lace structures. This online workshop invites participants to discover how 3D printing machine works and how 3D printing technology can be applied to textiles.
Using Adobe Illustrator, I will demonstrate the complete process of creating a simple 3D-printed lace sample—from digital modeling to preparing the slicer file and printing it on a 3D printing machine. Participants will see how a 3D-printed lace sample is created from start to finish. If you have Adobe Illustrator, you’re welcome to follow along and create your own 3D printing file during the workshop.
Next, the workshop explores how 3D-printed components can be integrated with embroidery, knitting, and crochet through a series of samples, and how different materials influence texture, flexibility, and structure. Participants will gain insight into the design workflow, from digital modeling to combining 3D printing with traditional textile techniques.

Kaixin Zhou's work explores the relationship between structural lace and the modern woman. She is constantly seeking ways to combine tradition with contemporary design. Through her work, she aims to reshape the image of women.
Woman image changes, moving from vulnerability and sacrifice to seeking self-wholeness. Using my work to show the rational, powerful and beautiful side of women. I use lace to represent woman, so I rebuild lace, I combine new technology 3D printing with traditional textile technologies( like crochet, knitting and embroidery) to create a new style lace. They are structural and a little bit hard while maintaining a sense of delicacy. They embody the strength and resilience of modern women.
