Mouse Ceramic Studio is presenting work by artists Elizabeth Tolson, Katie Coughlin, Luiza Kurzyna, and Suzanne Goldenberg. Bringing together artists whose practices move fluidly between textiles and ceramics, Shared Structures explores the space where materials, processes, and techniques intersect.
Through weaving, stitching, knotting, coiling, and construction, these artists challenge conventional boundaries between fiber and clay. Their works highlight labor, skill, and material knowledge within both disciplines while expanding the possibilities of contemporary craft. Ceramic looms, woven clay forms, textile inspired surfaces, and hybrid constructions reveal how techniques can move across mediums, creating new visual languages and unexpected material relationships.
At a time when handwork is often overlooked, Shared Structures foregrounds the value of making as a form of inquiry, experimentation, and knowledge. The exhibition celebrates artists who push beyond disciplinary categories, embracing process, exploration, and technique as essential components of contemporary art.
Accompanying the exhibition, a short artist talk will offer insight into each artist’s material investigations and evolving studio practice.

Elizabeth Tolson
Elizabeth Tolson is an artist and educator whose work examines fertility, motherhood, and the body’s experiences through ceramics and fiber. Tolson holds an MFA from Parsons School of Design and a BFA from Alfred University, and has been awarded residencies at the Textile Arts Center, Trestle Projects, Chashama’s ChaNorth, and Saltonstall. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at 934 Gallery, Workhouse Arts Center (upcoming) and in a two-person exhibition at the Appalachian Center for Craft. Tolson is based in Brooklyn, New York, where she is a part-time Assistant Professor at Parsons School of Design.
Katie Coughlin
Katie Coughlin received her MFA from The Ohio State University(2018) and her BFA from Alfred
University(2010). Katie has been an Artist in Residence at Red Lodge Clay Center and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts as well as the Textile Art Center. She has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center, The Warren Mackenzie Advancement Award from Northern Clay Center, and a 2020 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship. A native New Yorker, Katie returned to the city in 2018 and opened Ovington Pottery, a small teaching studio in 2024. When not teaching ceramics, you can find her working in her studio, knitting, or at the beach.
Luiza Kurzyna
Luiza Kurzyna is a Polish-born artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She holds an MFA from Brooklyn College and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited at Textile Art Gallery, Every Woman Biennial, AIR Gallery, Art in Odd Places, Governors Island Art Fair, New Britain Museum of American Art, and many others. Her solo projects include the BRIC Garage Door Video Series and +/- Project Space at Soho 20 Gallery. Kurzyna has received support through residencies and fellowships, including Ox-Bow, I-Park Foundation, Santa Fe Art Institute, ChaNorth, the Contemporary Arts Center, BRIC Media Fellowship, and the Brooklyn College Teaching Fellowship. Kurzyna has also served as an artist mentor for the NYFA Immigrant Artist Program, as a teaching artist for numerous children’s and community programs, and currently teaches at Parsons School of Design.
Suzanne Goldenberg
Suzanne Goldenberg is an artist, writer, and educator in New York City. She completed her BA at McGill University in Film and Communications and her MFA in visual art at the Maryland Institute. A recipient of The Gottlieb Foundation Grant, her work has been shown in New York and internationally. Her exhibits have been reviewed in the New York Times, Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, and by Peter Plagens in the Wall Street Journal. Her poems have appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, The Boston Review, and The Recluse. Since 2018, she has hosted CRUSH, a free monthly reading series, at the Woodbine collective in NYC. She lives and works in New York.
